IGGY POP

There's not an ounce of fat on these eight, energised tracks. Everything is sharpened by the awareness of mortality and there is alchemy's in Pop's ability to infuse such resignation with real electricity. There's Doorsian psychedelia and tolling bells on Vulture, piano soul on Chocolate and chanting on Paraguay; the sleazy sex of "cheapo motels" and "hourglass ass" on Gardenia and Bowie's ghost prowls through the "glittering champagne on ice/Berlin and Christ" of German Days. Pop may have lost his lust for life, but he hasn't shed the burning desire to make an outstanding rock'n'roll.
